TIME to hit the Restore, Renew, RESET BUTTON!
As a Quarterly Blogger on my Dream it! Do it! Danigirl! eCommerce store, I know it's time to finish the school year and get everyone from nieces and nephews, God Children(I acually don't have any, ha!), student scholars, and youth off through Graduation and too their next level, and teach them how to live on the Dream it! Do it! Danigirl! Believe in yourself plane;)
Ironically, through all that came the thought that it is also time to Restore, Renew, and HIT THE RESET BUTTON!
As an entertainer, taking time to feed myself through educating youth, growing in my Toastmaster's motivational speaking, and continuing to get Dr. Maya Angelou vibe on, authoring Children's books, short films, and re editing writings of meaningful mindfulness in this time to empower and make a mighty difference in the world, I realized the best way to go about it was to look at the card, my family friend since before I was born, Key Note Speaker, Dr. Paulette Brown-Hinds spoke at a NCNW, Living Legacy, dinner this past Spring.
THE CARD SAID: SANKOFA! - A Akan(Ghanaian vernacular) word that means, "We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so that we understand why and how we came to be who we are today,"
In meditating and reading that card, it enlightened the idea in me that these past few months I have been doing just that. For instance, in education, I now help fund students at my Alma Mater, Cal State Long Beach, where I got my BA in DANCE at the age of 19.
Also, at the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight, I reached back by getting involved as a writing consultant for the Dance evaluators of Non-Classical Dance category, for the SPOTLIGHT AWARDS, as scholarship I recieved when I was in high school at the age of 15, with a dance masterpiece work to the music of legendary Composor John WIlliams, called, "Metamorphesis." That was a great experience for I got the opportunity to come back and see where I truly come from, and declared to never doubt my Artistic excellence again, for it is valued, and it is needed, and it is Real Deal.
And Third, I took time to write a short film for the AT&T SHAPE Create - A -Thon, which landed me a promotional attendance to a great technolgy media AT&T conference ont he Warner Brothers Studio lot. Best about that was that I got a chance to connect with my family, whom presently works with the company in a REAL DEAL WAY. Now that was definetly a SANKOFA feeling, as I attended the event learning new things with my cousin, Andre Carpenter, from Apple, whom I have recorded my first music project with, his son, LEJ THA LEGACY, whom is going in the direction of his dad's footsteps, and my Aunt Dr. Bettye Saxon, whom is a beautiful exquiste executive always ready to help us connect the dots in our own careers in this media technology evolutionary time. As I listened to HIP HOP Venture Capitalist Mogul, Sean Diddy Combs, I was reminded that again and again that It doesn't matter where you come from, the sky is not the limit, and "Keep God First," definitely means, when you have the opportunity and the Favor of God on you, it is your responsibility and calling to go back and uplift your community and give back to the next generation because you have so much influence.
Also, Creator of HBO show, "Insecure," Issa Rae, taught me that while working and waiting on the right timing and team to come to just, "CHILL." If you have a good, no a GREAT product, it will eventually land on good people, "Just CHILL, RELAX and keep going."
